The students of the Prospective Gents Club and the Imminent Ladies of Virtue have returned from another successful Heritage Tour! Since 1998 the Bridge Builders has taken an impressive entourage of students on the annual Tour during Oregon's spring break. This year about two dozen students, the young men taking one route and the young ladies another, participated in the tour with stops including Texas, Virginia and Charlotte because they demonstrated a genuine interest in pursuing a college degree, committed themselves to The Bridge Builders program, and established a reverent relationship with Club leadership.
On the Heritage Tour students excitedly visited colleges and universities such as Hampton University, North Carolina A & T State University, Duke University, and St. Augustine College to meet other high-achieving African-American students. They also met adults who are making a difference in their communities, as well as visited historical landmarks and cultural sites such as late civil rights activist Medgar Evers' home and the historic Lorraine Motel.
The tour not only exposes the students to another part of the country but also introduces our rites of passage program to others across the nation. We thank the parents, students, supportive partners, Bridge Builders, and other donors who worked tirelessly as they do each year to ensure that the Heritage Tour was a resounding success!
